Hermann medieval minstrel

Sibiu has had an active lay and religious musical life. The document since 1598 where the musicians (trumpeters) receive the status of guild also stands as proof of this. Sibiu was visited by great performing artists and composers, such as: Karl Filtsch, Franz Liszt and the famous Johann Strauss. The first theatre shows were held in a wooden building from Piaţa Mare in 1752, but in 1788 the Bulky Tower (Turnul Gros), now Thalia Hall was opened.
